Looking for an alternative to the Aura Premium?
The Aura Premium is the versatile heart of the SonderCare line at $6,999 — which is exactly why people pause on it. The real question is usually “is this the right Aura for us, or is another one a better fit?” Most of the time the Premium is the answer. Sometimes it isn't — and we'll tell you when.
Quick answer
For most situations — fall risk, daily transfers, recovery, aging in place — the Aura Premium is the right bed precisely because it does the most. You'd choose a different Aura only for a specific reason: a shared bedroom where the bed should look like furniture (Platinum), more width for one person (Extra Wide), a couple staying together (Companion), or a genuinely low-need situation (Impulse).
Why the Aura Premium is the default for a reason
Before looking elsewhere, know what you'd be giving up. The Premium is the bed that adapts to the most situations:
- FallSafe ultra-low 10" platform for the shortest possible fall distance
- One-button hi-lo from 10" to a 39" working height for safe transfers
- Full clinical positioning — Trendelenburg, Zero Gravity, Comfort Chair
- 500 lb capacity, International Hospital Standard certified, 5-year warranty
When another Aura is the better alternative
Each of these solves one thing better than the Premium. If your situation matches, it's the smarter choice — not an upgrade or downgrade, a better fit.

Aura Platinum 39"
$8,499
Identical clinical capability to the Premium, wrapped in upholstered panels so it reads as bedroom furniture. The alternative when dignity in a shared room matters as much as the care.

Aura Extra Wide 48"
$8,999
Same Aura capability with a 48" surface for a larger individual or daily bedside repositioning. Choose this when width — not a second sleeper — is the need.

Aura Companion 78"
$12,999
A true split-king: one partner gets full clinical positioning, you both keep the bed you share. The alternative when sleeping apart isn't acceptable.

Impulse Residential 39"
$3,999
For a stable, mobile person who only needs comfort positioning, the Premium is more bed than the situation calls for. A different bed for a different need — not a lesser one.

Is the Aura Premium worth it over a cheaper bed?
If there's any fall risk, daily transfers, or need for clinical positioning, yes — those are exactly what the Premium is built for and what cheaper beds can't do. If the person is stable and mobile with only comfort needs, the Impulse Residential ($3,999) is the more sensible spend. The Premium earns its price through capability, not finish.
What's the difference between the Aura Premium and the Aura Platinum?
Clinically they're identical — same FallSafe ultra-low height, same positioning, same 500 lb capacity, same certification and 5-year warranty. The Platinum ($8,499) adds upholstered furniture-grade panels for a shared bedroom. If aesthetics aren't a priority, the Premium gives you the same care for $1,500 less.
Should I get the Aura Premium or the Extra Wide?
Choose the standard Premium 39" unless one person specifically needs more width — a larger individual, or daily bedside repositioning that needs room to work. The Extra Wide 48" ($8,999) is for a single occupant. If you're thinking of two people, you want the Companion, not the Extra Wide.
Is the Aura Premium good for couples?
The Premium is a single 39" bed. If a couple wants to keep sleeping side by side while one partner has care needs, the Aura Companion 78" split-king is the bed designed for that — not the Premium.
